Two Alps Cable Car Station
The modernization of the Jandri cable car in Les Deux-Alpes is an exceptional project in several respects: its size, the investment, the number of people active on the site at the same time (nearly 400 people at peak activity), all via a 14 km long track road. It is the largest project in the world carried out in such extreme mountain conditions. The opening to the public is scheduled for December 2024, a deadline of only 15 months to complete this ambitious project.
Since 2021, SATA Group has been pursuing a large-scale investment plan to renovate and modernize the Les 2 Alpes ski area.
The construction of a 3S cable car will replace the current Jandri Express gondola lift. This new facility will transport skiers, pedestrians, and mountain bikers from 1650 meters to 3,200 meters in 15 minutes, instead of the current 40 minutes.
Some parts of the structure are designed with a Kerto® LVL timber structure: the intermediate station (station G2/G3) at an altitude of 2600m and the arrival station (station G4) at 3200m.
For the construction of stations, 135 m3 of Kerto® LVL were produced and delivered ready to install on site, including lengths between 17,9 m and 24,04 m! Thus, 3 exceptional transport trucks and a standard truck were required for the supply of Kerto® LVL to the construction site.
Beyond the production of these exceptionally large components, the major challenge was to meet the deadline as closely as possible. Only three months passed between order placement and the first delivery to the construction site. Metsa Wood's industrial efficiency in producing and machining the parts in the middle of August and transporting them by boat to Honfleur was a major asset, as were the exceptional transport solutions that ISB was able to find.
