X-Fix: A revolution in CLT panel assembly 

With the rise of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber), timber construction companies have developed fastening solutions that are robust, quick to install, and environmentally friendly. A suitable CLT panel fixing system 

X-Fix is ​​a wooden connector designed for the one-off assembly of CLT panels. Its beveled dovetail design allows for interlocking assembly, ensuring a self-tightening joint that allows the transfer of shear forces between CLT panels. This system also drastically reduces the number of screws required (16 to 24 screws saved per connector) while ensuring the stability of the building. Made from beech or birch plywood, X-Fix benefits from the strength of these species. 

X-fix is ​​available in several configurations adapted to different CLT thicknesses:  

  • X-fix C45: ideal for CLT panels with a thickness of 120mm or less 
  • X-fix C90: designed for thicker panels, ensuring increased strength.

Mechanical performance and fire resistance 

Tests carried out by the Holzbau laboratory have highlighted the excellent mechanical characteristics of the X-Fix, both in tension and shear. The ingenious machining of the CLT edges with a tongue-and-groove allows for precise and reliable assembly, avoiding panel chatter. 

Another notable advantage of X-Fix connectors lies in their excellent fire resistance. Tests conducted by the Institute for Fire Protection Technology and Safety Research have confirmed that the natural protection offered by CLT allows for a REI 90-minute fire resistance rating , a major asset for the safety of public buildings.

Fast, efficient and reversible implementation for an environmentally friendly choice 

Thanks to its intelligent design, X-Fix simplifies the assembly of CLT panels and reduces on-site installation time. Its installation does not require complex tools, making it accessible to both professionals and construction companies looking to optimize their efficiency. 

These 100% wood connectors are fully in line with a sustainable approach, thanks to their frugality, both in quantity of material and in energy consumed for the production method, their low CO² impact and their ease of dismantling thus contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint of wood constructions.

Already adopted on several major projects, the X-Fix has demonstrated its qualities in emblematic projects such as: 

  • CROCODILE, a former industrial building, converted into an apartment building, with a surface area of ​​22,000m² of CLT over 8 floors in Winterthur, Switzerland. 
    The project owner of this program emphasized that this system enabled a saving of 30% on this site (compared to a conventional assembly solution), linked to installation time. 
  • EDWOOD, workshops and offices with an area of ​​2200 m² of CLT in La Madeleine, France.
